Inspiring Mindset Quote on wall @Starbucks © by BetterBizIdeas

I’ve always been a fan of great quotes, whether they be funny quotes, motivational quotes,  inspirational quotes or as you may have guessed…my personal favorite…mindset quotes. The best quotes sum up in just a few words what others take paragraphs or pages to explain.  And while I am an avid reader with a love of language and the written word, sometimes a powerful quote is just what I need to jump start the neurons in my brain and get my mindset back on track.

So today I’d like to give to you mindset snacks in the form of quotes from William James, the Bhagavad-Gita, John Milton’s Paradise Lost, and Spencer W. Kimball.

If you have some favorite mindset quotes you’d like to share, please feel free to post them in the comments below.  I’d love to read them!

“We must deliver ourselves

with the help of our minds…

for one who has conquered the mind,

the mind is the best of friends;

but for the one who has failed to do so,

the mind will remain the greatest enemy.”

— Bhagavad-Gita

“The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven..”
John Milton, Paradise Lost

The greatest discovery of my generation is

that man can alter his life simply by

altering his attitude of mind.

                                                   — William James

“Man alone, of all creatures of earth, can change his thought pattern and become the architect of his destiny.”

Spencer W. Kimball (often attributed to William James)

  2. Jennifer Battaglino says:

Inspiring quotes that show that we can change when we are aware of the power of our mind and how to work with that power, not against it.

  3. I really appreciate quotes, because it requires the mindset to create them as well as the mindset to use them effectively.

  4. Dennis Perry says:

Those are great quotes Michael. I, too, absolutely love quotes. One of my life’s goals is to something so profound that it makes it way into the “quote literature”. Still working on that!

One of my favorite quotes is from the religious scholar Frederich Buechner. He says, “The place where God calls you to is the place your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”

That quote really strikes at the heart of all of us who stand in service to others through our entrepreneurial efforts.

  5. Kevin Bettencourt says:

The John Milton quote from Paradise Lost does strike a nerve for me. As far as my own I would go with the common “The harder you work, the luckier you get.” It seems to keep me focused on the task at hand. I realize it’s but a whisper more deep than Larry the Cable Guy but one thought can frequently be stated multiple ways with great quotes. The one that touches you and drives home the point is the one in your pocket.

  6. Hi Michael,

My favorite is from Helen Keller. “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.”

I love them all, but for today, my favorite one is the Bhagavad-Gita one!
    Thanks Michael!!

  8. Quotes always interest me because they mean different things to different people, and even different things to the same person at different stages of their life.

Those are all great quotes and I agree that an inspiring quote can jump start and give one vision. Many of my favorites come from the Bible…one that I was often inspired by when I worked at the homeless shelter in St Paul was Hebrews ch 13 vs 1 and 2″Let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”
I think the entire Costa Rican culture lives by this verse….they are very hospitable…as was my Mother.

  10. Micheal, those are great quotes, I am a fan of Napoleon Hill and plenty of what he has to say.

  11. I love great quotes, and what better a topic than mindset? I especially like the one from the Bhagavad-Gita, a classic spiritual text.

  12. Neil Dhawan says:

I really enjoy quotes, too and these are some great ones – very profound. Quotes can be helpful to “jumpstart” a thought process – whether to delve into more creativity or simply to meditate upon as a mantra.
